"MADISON AREA'S ORTHODONTIC SPECIALIST OF CHOICE"

Retainers

STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT RETAINERS!

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 12 months. However, to support life long stability of your new smile and prevent tooth movement, retainers can and should be worn indefinitely. Some removable retainers are completely clear aligners and some utilize a thin wire to hold your teeth in place. You and Dr. Gochnour will decide on the best one for you.

Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far by wearing them as recommended. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and gently brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth. It's a good idea to soak your retainer in half water and half white vinegar as needed to keep it fresh and clean. Fixed retainers, the kind that remain in your mouth, need special care. Be sure to brush and floss regularly. Excellent oral hygiene will keep your new smile healthy and beautiful!
